Our Second Year Of Homeschool
We have entered our second year of homeschool.
As we start working on our routine and I reflect on what worked last year and what did not work, I am reflecting on everything we accomplished and I have to sing God’s praise. Before becoming a mother, I never would have imagined I would be a homeschool mom and here I am, facing the challenges of this journey with the strength of God and taking it one day at a time.
Last year held some lonely moments but this year we have come together with our local homeschool community for a variety of activities and my heart is full by the vibrancy of this homeschool group. This is homeschool! I didn’t realize this was what it could be! I have felt called to homeschool our children since Luke was four but at that time it did not work out. The last two years solidified that homeschool is the right choice for our family. Last year was so tough and I keep thinking, if I had let those tough times turn me away from Gods calling on our lives to homeschool, I wouldn’t be reaping the harvest of new friendships and experiences with other homeschool families this year.
If God has lead you somewhere and you are facing challenges in this moment, keep going you are almost on the other side and close to something amazing He has prepared for you.
I am inspired by the parents who have been homeschooling for many years and how they are contributing to our group as a whole and its really getting me excited to contribute as well.
As we shift from endless days on the beach to a bit more structure in our days, our household is feeling everything deeply. So much change is in the air and it can be hard to adjust to it all at once but we are together and trying as we continue to follow God’s lead.
Change is hard. God might be asking you to put some things down but He is getting ready to put something better in your hands.
I have found strength in goal setting recently. I like to be aware of my short term goals, like top three priorities for a productive day and also long term goals like raising children who have their own relationship with God as adults. Both goals serve their purpose in the daily work. My short term daily goals of getting through a specific number of lessons helps us to feel accomplished each day in learning and building our routines. The smallness of these accomplishments could leave me feeling like I am not doing enough but because I have my long term goals and a big picture perspective also, I can trust that the small daily work over years, will produce good fruit.
This is all easier said than done in the tough daily moments when I can get clouded by the overwhelm of the day but I try to come back to this truth, Gods timing and plan is good and He has not let me down yet.
Whatever kind of new routines you and your family are working on this fall, I hope you can find comfort in the daily work, trust God and know He has a big good plan for the future.
