Lets Celebrate The Small

What is Christmas to you? You know that song, “Thats Christmas To Me” I love the version by the Pentatonix

Christmas for me is a feeling. Lots of different things give me that Christmas feeling. Christmas music, decorations, Christmas movies, doing crafts and cards with my children and family dinners. That Christmas feeling often comes the strongest in the smallest moments though, the unexpected moments. I have one memory in my head from a Christmas when Lizzy was 1 and Luke was 3 and the four of us were sitting on the floor, after opening presents, we were sitting in the hallway and listening to Christmas music just being silly and dancing our babies around.

These types of small moments are often what I remember, the in-between moments are what I cherish. I love all the prep work that happens the few days leading up to Christmas Day. The last few years, Luke and Lizzy have helped my prep things like cinnamon buns for Christmas morning breakfast. This year we spent a whole week in November, cleaning and decorating. There was so much to juggle with baby Evelyn on the move too but it was also so fun. I was a little stressed at times but I was also so impressed with how Luke and Lizzy were so willing to clean, organize and decorate. There is one scene I locked in my brain, the Christmas music was blasting and Luke and Lizzy were washing the walls while dancing and throwing their clothes into the air. I hope they remember these little moments too.

When it comes to Christmas Eve versus Christmas Day, I am a Christmas Eve girl all the way. The anticipation of the big day is what it is all about for me. Christmas Eve holds all the magic. What is your favourite part, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? As we head into December I hope your heart is as full as this season but I hope we can move mindfully through this month aware of all the special little moments in between the big ones. God used a baby, born to regular parents in a stable, to show us what His love was all about. If we are not keeping our eyes fully open and aware for the gifts of Christmas, we might miss them. Small is not insignificant and should be celebrated.

Lets celebrate it all! Lets celebrate the small!

Merry Christmas
