Hold On To That Goodwill Bag

Just before we went into quarantine, I teamed up with Goodwill to share everything I love and have loved for years, about thrifting.

I have always loved the hunt, I enjoy the process of sifting through racks on a mission to find something special. Sometimes I have an idea of what I would like to find and other times I just love looking. I actually find the process of thrifting relaxing and exhilarating.

In my teens and twenties I hunted for funky items I could rework or that would just help me stand out as a fashion loving girl. Into my thirties I tried to be a thrifty mom and sought out clothing and toys for my little ones as I knew most items would only be in use for short periods of time.

And now, I thrift for all of these reasons, it also makes me feel good knowing that donating to and shopping at Goodwill is great for our environment. As consumers we can all extend the lifecycle of goods by donating to and shopping at Goodwill. Goodwill also serves job seekers in our communities and employs almost 1000 individuals across our region.

Most recently I had the pleasure to shop the Goodwill Boutique in London Ontario, a carefully curated boutique showcasing higher end donations or more current style trends. The racks were organized and easy to shop and I was mostly impressed by the super cool selection of shoes. There were a few pairs of really rad boots I loved but they were not my size. This particular shopping trip, all I had on my mind was colour, I searched the racks for colour and when I found colours that caught my eye, I tried the items on. I came out with a super vibrant and pretty skirt and top, both J.Crew brand and in new condition.

Both outfits pictured in this post have been thrifted at a Goodwill, the coral dress is from the Sarnia store and the pink skirt outfit is from the Boutique in London.

We have been working on so many projects around our home during quarantine, one of which is organizing closets and clearing out items that we no longer use. It feels so good to get things organized. We have a Goodwill bag going and once the drop off centre opens back up, we will be making a big donation. I am so looking forward to thrifting again but in the meantime, it is important that I hold on to my donations as the Goodwill centres will need our donations more than ever when they open back up. If you are like me and doing organizing in this time, you can help out by simply setting your Goodwill donations to the side and dropping them off when we are able.

I would love to know what your favourite thrift find is, please share in the comments below.
