I don’t know about you but, I want to feel amazing while on vacation, travelling and adventuring. I used to think of summer and vacations as times of completely checking out from any responsibility, a time to escape and that left me coming back to reality with so much shame and anxiety. I have developed healthy habits that have simply become my lifestyle and bringing that lifestyle with me on vacation adds so much to my vacation and so I am so excited to share my strategies with you.
1. Build a morning routine for life. Build a morning routine with roughly three things that are non negotiable items for you. These are activities that enrich your life, make you a better person, energize you and grow you. If you want a more relaxed vibe on vacation, just allow yourself to move through these routines at a slower pace or in a new location like taking your Bible study to the beach at sunrise. A morning routine is not just something to be completed begrudgingly Monday through Friday, its activity to enhance your life. If you don't want to bring your morning routine with you on vacation, I would think about reworking it or digging deeper into your purpose for the activities you do each day.
2. Move your body everyday. I have found that especially when I am travelling, moving my body grounds me into my days and wakes me up so I can be fully present to the abundant blessings all around me. I love the BODi wellness platform for workouts that I can take to a hotel gym or it provides me with workout options that require no equipment and just my body and tiny bit of space.
3. Make yourself accountable to others and share why your healthy habits are important to you. When you are accountable to a wellness community online, even while travelling, you can check in and stay committed to your personal work and know you are not alone. It is easy to make excuses for not staying committed to your healthy habits when you are trying to do it alone but when you are accountable to community, you are more likely to show up. Sharing your goals and desires for self care with the people you are travelling with, will allow them to be a part of your success, in making time for your self care and they may even want to join you in the work too.
4. Prioritise nutrition. Stay hydrated, pack high protein snacks and when possible eat full meals. I want to have lots of energy while on vacation with my family and so I need to fuel my body well. I drink as much water as possible, pack electrolyte packs that can be mixed into water and protein bars. When eating out at restaurants I try to choose main course meals that have a portion of protein, carbs and vegetables to get the proper amount of fuel I need. When indulging in treats I try not to go to extremes. I can enjoy ice cream for dessert but that doesn’t mean the whole week needs to be non stop treats.
5. Have fun! Maybe your adventures provide you with an opportunity to try a new kind of physical activity, new food or learn something new that will expand your heart and mind. When you look at your vacations as an opportunity to expand your self care and healthy habits, you will come back from your travels overflowing with joy and energy for the next chapter of life.
