Strategies For Building A Morning Routine
Studies show that a strong morning routine contributes to increased focus, productivity and joy throughout the day. Below are my top strategies for continually building and improving my morning routine.
Why
Why do you want to wake up early? What is the big picture goal you are trying to work towards by carving out extra time for yourself in the morning? Take a few minutes to figure this out, dream about it and write it down.
Prioritize
Once you have decided why you need to wake up early, now create a list of activities you will focus on each morning that align with your '“why”. This list of activities should be pretty small 1-3 items with your number 1 item being non negotiable.
Note, that top priority could shift as you grow and so could your '“why”, be open to continual growth and flexibility, this will allow you to build a sustainable routine that will weather the ever changing ebbs and flows of your life.
Start Small
If you are starting from zero with your morning routine, start by waking up 15 minutes earlier than you normally do, to tackle that top priority on your list.
Remove
Waking up earlier, often requires we go to bed earlier. I am a huge advocate of sleep, it is so important to our health. What needs to be removed from your day or evening routine, that will allow you to wake up earlier?
Community/Accountability
It can be super scary to share your big goals but it is a sure way to create accountability within yourself. Having a community to work on those goals alongside you, is even more valuable. I run a Facebook group for my clients who are working on their wellness goals and morning routines and the people who choose to show up, always experience great results.
Make It Easy
How can you make your morning routine easy and set yourself up for success? I do my morning routine at my desk, all the tools I need are always waiting there for me each morning. My Bible, journal and workouts are at my fingertips. Remove as many obstacles as possible so that your morning activities can flow easily.
Mentorship
Reach out to someone who is doing the work you want to see in your own life. If you see someone rocking their morning routine, reach out to them and connect. I love helping others with their morning routines and healthy habits. These positive activities have enhanced all areas of my life and I am excited to help others experience the same thing.
